With more than 10 years in front of the cameras, Myrka Dellanos, is a two-time Emmy award winning broadcast journalist who has gained credibility and the love of more than 20 million people in the United States, Latin America and Europe.
She became known internationally as the co-host of Univision Network’s highest rated news-magazine show, “Primer Impacto,” where she covered important news events such as The World Cup in Paris and Korea, Princess Diana’s funerals live from England, OJ Simpson’s trial in Los Angeles and The Grammy’s, among many others. She was invited by Barbara Walters to co-host ABC’s “The View” and has collaborated with CNN on various occasions.
Myrka is the recipient of three ACE awards aside from being honored with the “Hispanic Leadership Award” by the Hispanic Heritage Council and as “Person of the Year” by the Organization of Ibero-American Journalists. She was featured in the prestigious list of “Who’s Who among Hispanics” and was awarded the Athena award, which recognizes women that have served as role models for other women.
She was appointed by President George Bush as a member of the “Freedom Corps,” a group of 25 of the most influential people in their fields in the U.S. who promote volunteerism. She was also invited by the White House to host the launch of Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States alongside President George W. Bush and the first lady. At the beginning of the war on terror, Dellanos traveled to Iraq as part of the USO Tour with Wayne Newton and comedian Rob Schneider.
The completely bilingual (English and Spanish) journalist is also an author. Her book, “Triunfa y Se Feliz” (Succeed and Be Happy) was published by Random House in 2005 and was featured at the National Book Fair in Washington DC where Myrka was also the guest speaker at the West Wing of the White House where she stressed the importance of reading to your children. Due to her success as a journalist and her tireless humanitarian efforts, she was chosen to be on the cover of Siempre Mujer’s (Meredith Corporation) magazine featuring the women that most inspire other women in the US. Dellanos has also graced the cover of People En Espanol magazine more than any other Hispanic in the US. She was chosen as People En Espanols’s Star of the Year and has been part of their “Most Beautiful People” issue four times.
A dedicated humanitarian, she founded her own non-profit 501(c) 3 organization mROC (Missions Reaching Out Compassionately) whose mission is to help underprivileged women and children in South Florida and Latin-America. Dellanos has been the international spokesperson for Save the Children; Partners of the Americas; and WorldVision among others and she has traveled to many countries to work with homeless children, orphans and former gang members. In 2007, she was diagnosed with diabetes and she has been active in educating her audience about the disease.
Myrka was the Spokesperson for the Hispanic market for Colgate Toothpaste filming several commercials every year. She was also chosen, alongside her young daughter to be part of the Got Milk moustache print campaign; and she filmed the Old Navy Christmas campaign.
Currently, Myrka anchors her own syndicated radio talk show, which airs in more than 22 countries. She is also an adjunct professor of Honors Journalism at her alma mater, the University of Miami.
She resides in Miami with her daughter.
